Standing at the foot of where Mare Street meets Narrow Way – the Hackney Tap features original interiors from its Midland Bank days. Steeped in history, Tesco founder Jack Cohen opened the company’s first bank account here. A once-forgotten 19th century building, the Old Town Hall - dating back to 1802 - has been repurposed as Hackney’s favourite new local public house.
Located the heart of Hackney Central, East London, a beer garden basks in the afternoon sun, whilst inside, old bank furnishings and an unearthed parquet floor - discovered under layers of concrete – makes for an inimitable pub, that feels like it’s been here for some time.
